Summer Strings 2025

🎻 SUMMER STRINGS IS BACK! 🎻

The Summer Strings program was established in the summer of 2019 by music teacher Mrs. Charlotte Van Ryswyk and has provided students with a unique opportunity to grow as musicians in a fun and immersive environment. Students of Summer Strings come to us at different ages, levels of playing, and personalities, but we are all there for one thing—to make music!

In this two-week, immersive summer orchestra workshop, students receive the specialized instruction needed to develop their technical skills, improve their musicianship, and grow their confidence as performers.

Orchestras & Schedule:

This year, we are excited to introduce two new orchestras, offering students more opportunities to develop their skills at the appropriate level:

Elementary Orchestra (Beginner & Early Intermediate) – 9:00 AM – 12:15 PM

This is our only 3-hour class, as younger and less experienced students require additional time to develop fundamental skills.

Students will receive focused instruction on technique, note reading, rhythm, and ensemble playing to help build a strong musical foundation.

This orchestra is perfect for students who are new to orchestra or need extra guidance to reach the next level.

In addition to orchestra, students will have the chance to participate in:

Ukulele Class - Lead by our cello coach, Mr. Greg Adamson, students will learn the basics of playing the ukulele in a fun and engaging way!

• Intermediate Orchestra (Intermediate-Level Players) – 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Senior Orchestra (Advanced Players) – 2:45 PM – 4:45 PM

Both of these orchestras are for students who have more experience on their instrument and are ready for more challenging music and advanced ensemble playing.

These groups will focus on refining intonation, rhythm, ensemble skills, and musical interpretation.

Audition Requirement for Intermediate & Senior Orchestras

Students who wish to participate in either the Intermediate Orchestra or Senior Orchestra must audition on registration day.

Auditions will be held with the coach of the student’s instrument (violin, viola, or cello).

The coach will determine which orchestra best suits the student’s ability level, ensuring they are placed where they will be most successful.

Placement decisions will be final and made in the best interest of the student’s musical development.

Each orchestra will focus on developing technical skills, ensemble playing, and musical expression, all in a supportive and engaging environment.
